The alloying elements affect to high-strength spring steel wire

One of the most direct means of high-strength spring steel wire will be to study the development of new sorts of steel. We must first view the characteristics of various alloying elements, and design steel chemical composition scientifically.

(1) Carbon
Carbon
is the most essential element of spring steel wire. Carbon content plays a huge role on the performance of spring steel. To make sure sufficient strength of spring steel wire, as well as its hardness, flexibility and fatigue life, steel will need to have a very high carbon content, and so the carbon content of alloy spring steel wire is usually higher than the alloy steel.

(2) Silicon
the silicon content in spring steel wire
is a bit more than 1wt%, even up to 3wt%. The chief purpose of adding silicon is usually to improve strength, flexibility and tempering stability of spring steel wire.

(3) Manganese
Manganese
can also be commonly used in the spring steel wire. Manganese helps remove the harmful effects of sulfur and is good to deoxidize. Manganese significantly increased hardenability, improve heat treatment performance, thereby improving the strength and hardness of steel.

(4) Chromium
chromium??£¤s highlight advantage is it is not easy to promote decarburization of spring steel wire
and may significantly improve the hardenability of steel.

(5) Other alloying elements
Recent reports of micro alloying elements of spring steel wire attached importance. The most involved trace element is boron, which happens to be an element of improving hardenability. It can also help plasticity, toughness and resistance to elastic weakening.
